"I Need to Get A Closer Look!"
This youngster beat his chest, ate, gazed and entertained us with his antics throughout the whole hour, while most of the other members of his group napped. His Swahili name translated to "he who sleeps not at all". Our guide told us he was the opposite of the silverback who was appropriately named "he who sleeps too much". Gorillas build nests where they sleep at night and most make nests for their daytime naps as well. It takes them less than 5 minutes to make one. They build them in trees as well as on the ground. Adult males, though capable of climbing, will rarely trust the trees to hold their weight.
