"Knock, Knock, Who's There?"
The Hippos rely on the oxpecker bird to rid their bodies of parasites and insects, as do the zebras, giraffes, elephants and rhinos. The oxpecker, for his part, gets an easy meal. This photo is a good example of the advantage of having eyes and ears high on the head. It allows almost the entire body to be submerged while keeping lookout.
