"Dusty Days"
The Plains Zebra is found from the Somali-Masai arid zone to South Africa. It is the most water dependent of all savannah ungulates. It needs to have ready access to water, as it must drink daily. Unlike the Bovids, it has both upper and lower incisors that are used for nipping grass. They are also used for defense and for mutual grooming. Only males have canines. The cheek teeth are hypsodont with a complex crown pattern for grazing on abrasive grasses. The teeth continue to grow as they wear. An old zebra will finally run out of teeth.
